Shoes I’ll Never Wear
I woke to a morning when nothing seems right. Not even my favorite sweater feels good. I instantly rip it off, then slide into an oversized t-shirt, next a brightly colored blouse, then reluctantly go back to the sweater.
Do men experience days like these? Or is this solely women’s territory? Does this odd behavior indicate an identity crisis? Or is it just “closet fog”? I’ve decided this ritual must serve some purpose or another; otherwise we wouldn’t voluntarily torture ourselves, would we?
January: From the mouth of the cave
A few years ago I wiped the slate clean and decided I no longer needed resolutions, that I had broken enough. Why keep creating more?
Season of Darkness, Season of Light
Marq and I wrapped up Thanksgiving in a blur of turkey sandwiches, black-eyed Friday shopping, and rivalry weekend football. Honestly, we skipped the shopping and went to a movie, slept through most of the weekend, then finally said “no!” to more turkey and pumpkin pie. That’s when I decided to utilize Marq’s man power and move furniture around just to shake things up a bit. Other folks are way ahead of us though, posting festive shots of their Christmas trees on social media. I’ll admit, ours is still alive and standing somewhere in a field west of town. We’re not lazy, just focused on other things.
With Each Step
My prayer this week is simple: that I stay mindful in my daily life. That as an American, I recognize there is little I can do except live an exemplary life. I pray that my mind and my heart be free from the angry chatter that tempts me, that I not rush judgment or act in fear.
Wash, Rinse, Repeat, Tumble-dry
The creative process can be messy. I live in the ebb and flow of it and have learned to enjoy its various phases rather than to fight them. Often the process feels redundant — the starting and stopping, then the starting again
A Puppet for A Day
I feel swallowed up by the media and the collective chaos that appear to be driven by the hubbub surrounding the upcoming presidential election. (Another one tonight!) The bullying comments on social media, the arguments for and against gun control, the arguments about the arguments — it’s already too much! I feel as if I’m on a never-ending carousel, lots of talk with few solutions.
